About Jack Up The 80s
Owing to the huge sell-out success of Jack Up The 80s vol5, we have decided to throw another family friendly festival for a sixth year. The ethos of this fun Summer festival has always been to give something back to the local community within which it is held, with a wide range of charities and local good causes such as the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, Breast Cancer Research UK, Oxfam, the Joe Ellis Trust, Wight Crystal and IW Scouts to name but a few all having benefitted by being offered a key trading opportunity at the event. With your help we have facilitated the fundraising of over £20,000 for Island charities in the past 2 years! Our charity of the year for 2018 is Prostate Cancer UK.
Attendees to the festival continue to embrace the 80s theme and as the past five years have shown, there is a real passion for reliving the good times of Frankie Says and Choose Life t-shirts, florescent headbands, leg warmers, legendary blockbuster movies and of course great music and acts like Leo Sayer and T’Pau.
Jack Up The 80s moved in 2017 to a more fit for purpose site better suited to a live music event, with improved infrastructure, hard standing and flood lighting. Situated on the outskirts of Ryde the new venue ensures easier access for the majority of Islanders as well as visitors from the mainland, all weather facilities and a more enclosed space ensuring a safer environment for families. The site at Smallbrook Stadium is closer to the Island’s main transport links and shuttle buses will be provided to transport foot passengers from Ryde bus station directly to the venue.
For the second year running the festival will feature a separate event on the Friday night for those who simply can’t wait to get the party started, Jack Up The 80s presents the unstoppable The Magic of Motown Under the Stars concert on the evening of Friday 10 August.
